O'Dell Woolley by Eric Plier

The design of this course began in early April 2000. the name of the course is also the inspiration and who it is dedicated to -- my grandmother O'Dell Mobley Woolley. She passed away in October 1999, but I hope she would have been proud of my tribute to her.

Before I started the design, it was very important to me to make a course that would capture the very essence of the land she cherished, her home for all 79 years of her existence, her little corner of Chilton County, Alabama -- a minute little blip on the map (on some maps it is not even represented) called Stanton -- 2 miles to the Southwest of Maplesville and 28 miles north of Selma. This area is on the cusp of the Oakmulgee Division of the Talledega National Forest. It contains a myriad of steep rolling hills and is decorated with numerous vegetation, primarily massive and old pine, oak, hickory, and dogwood trees. This is my 4th course release for the GBC series, the 3rd to be situated in my home state of Alabama. In my opinion, I feel that this has been my best effort in recreating the feel of that territory of the country.

I also feel that this is my most mature and challenging offer to date, with many more risk/reward opportunities than my previous releases. Granted, I probably stretched the boundaries of what is considered proper coure architecture as there are many blind and sidehill-lie shots to the pin, and 3 extremely long par 3s, but I hope that players will look at these traits as something that gives the course more character and adds more strategic play to their game. I did not use any self-produced custom art, but borrowed some from other designers. I would like to offer my thanks for the following:

Textures -- Muirifield set created by
Florida Bush Trees, Florida Bushes, Florida Hedges, Florida Pines, and Florida Trees created by Terry Armstrong (Bay Hill)
House created by Scott Antes
Blooming Dogwood by Neil Lindsey
Fountain created by Randy Bubar (borrowed from Point Vincent by Matt Rose)
